In June 2023, Toyota launched the “Tommy-kun Project,” a venture aimed at exploring the future of communication through robotics. By November 2023, Toyota unveiled its partner robot, “Kepalan,” at the Miraikan in Tokyo. Kepalan, equipped with 34 joints, is capable of smooth dance movements and can recognize people and objects, changing its expressions accordingly. Toyota has a history of developing robots, such as the official mascots for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, and the Tommy-kun Project continues this trend. This initiative aligns with Toyota’s transformation into a mobility company, suggesting that future robots might become our companions.
