University of the Ryukyus and Nissan Collaborate to Achieve Decarbonized Society Using Electric Vehicles

On July 8, 2024, the University of the Ryukyus, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Ryukyu Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. signed an academic-industrial collaboration agreement to work on SDGs initiatives using electric vehicles (EVs). This agreement involves joint research on renewable energy utilization, mutual support in education, EV promotion, and regional revitalization. Additionally, it includes the use of V2H (Vehicle to Home) systems to verify the practical application of sustainable land-based aquaculture.

The University of the Ryukyus is advancing research on sustainable land-based aquaculture. This agreement will enable the practical application of sustainable aquaculture operations using the large battery capacity of EVs. Nissan, through its “Blue Switch” program, aims to achieve decarbonization and disaster resilience in cooperation with local communities.

The collaboration includes the utilization of renewable energy, EV use during disasters, mutual support in education, and EV promotion. The University of the Ryukyus, Nissan Motor, and Ryukyu Nissan will work together to achieve a decarbonized society and attain the SDGs through active EV use.
