BMW Replaces Water with Limestone in Paint Shops to Save Resources – BMW Group

The BMW Group has implemented dry separation technology using limestone powder in its Dingolfing and Regensburg paint shops. This sustainable solution saves 17 million liters of water and approximately 17,400 megawatt-hours of energy annually, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 5,000 tons. The Dingolfing plant has fully upgraded all paint lines, and one of the two lines at the Regensburg plant has been converted, with the second line set to follow in August 2025. This new technology significantly lowers the environmental impact of the painting process, aligning with BMW’s goal of reducing vehicle lifecycle CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030.
