General Motors (GM) was recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy for a project at its Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana that reduced natural gas consumption by 30% compared to 2019 levels. The project, which repurposes waste heat from generators to heat the plant and protect the emergency sprinkler system, is part of GM’s broader effort to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 72% by 2035 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
