Ford|The Human Bridge: A Century of Ford Engineering Lab’s Creative Reuse

September 19, 2024

The Ford Motor Company corporate campus, located 10 miles west of Detroit in Dearborn, has been home to many iconic structures, including the Ford Engineering Laboratory (FEL), which celebrates its centennial this year. Designed by Albert Kahn, FEL has undergone numerous renovations and adaptations throughout its history, with the most recent transformation converting a former courtyard into a modern archival space with climate-controlled stacks. The space now preserves Ford’s history while facilitating creative collaboration for engineers and other employees, honoring the building’s original design while future-proofing it for continued use.
