Meiwa Town and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Collaborate to Promote Decarbonization and Build a Disaster-Resilient Sustainable Town Using Electric Vehicles

On July 8, 2024, Meiwa Town in Mie Prefecture, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Nissan Prince Mie Sales Co., Ltd. signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement to utilize electric vehicles (EVs) for achieving decarbonization and building a disaster-resilient sustainable town.

Meiwa Town has declared its goal of achieving a zero-carbon society by 2050 and is actively promoting the introduction of renewable energy, such as solar power, to public facilities. As part of this effort, the town has introduced Nissan Sakura EVs as official vehicles and is considering further implementations such as V2H (Vehicle to Home) systems and portable power supply units.

Nissan, through its “Blue Switch” initiative, aims to achieve decarbonization and disaster resilience by leveraging its EV expertise. This agreement with Meiwa Town is part of Nissan’s ongoing efforts to promote a zero-emission society in collaboration with local communities and businesses.

Specific initiatives under this agreement include promoting the use of EVs, increasing renewable energy adoption, utilizing EVs as emergency power sources during disasters, and implementing environmental education programs.

Meiwa Town, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Nissan Prince Mie Sales Co., Ltd. will continue to actively use EVs to promote decarbonization and enhance environmental and disaster preparedness measures.
